In 2024, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is in a phase of rapid development, with its progress manifesting in several areas:
1. Expansion of the Airline Network: The airport plans to launch up to 17 new international and regional routes by the second half of 2024, including new flights to London Gatwick, Perth, Australia, and flights from China Southern Airlines and Serbian Airlines to Belgrade. It also aims to resume flights to Adelaide and Phú Quốc Island. This will further strengthen the global network that Baiyun Airport reaches through the air.
2. Growth in Passenger and Cargo Volume: As of now, Baiyun Airport has over 230 destinations for passenger flights, with approximately 1,500 international and regional flights per week. In terms of cargo, the airport has over 5 million square meters of cargo terminals and an annual processing capacity of over 4 million tons. In 2023, cargo and mail volume surpassed 2 million tons again, with nearly three-quarters of it being international and regional, making it the second largest in the country for four consecutive years.
3. Progress of Phase III Expansion: The Phase III expansion project at Baiyun Airport is proceeding at full speed, which includes the construction of Terminal T3, two new runways (West II and East III), a comprehensive transportation center, and the east and west extensions of Terminal T2. The project is expected to be completed and operational by 2025. At this time, Baiyun Airport will become a more powerful hub airport, with the cargo terminal area expanding to over 1 million square meters, and the terminal cargo throughput capacity reaching above 600,000 tons.
4. Development of the Aviation Industry: By 2025, the aviation industry and related sectors in Guangzhou are expected to exceed 100 billion yuan in total value, transitioning from a 'hub traffic' model to a 'hub economy', driving the formation of an internationally competitive industrial cluster.
5. Enhancement of Service Quality: Baiyun Airport is deepening its focus on 'second-level operation control', introducing local landing procedures, shortening domestic flight check-in times, increasing the rate of aircraft docking, and leveraging policies such as 24-hour customs clearance and 144-hour visa-free transit to launch a 'airport service platform'. This continuous improvement in operational efficiency and service quality has resulted in Baiyun Airport receiving the honor of 'Global Airport Service Satisfaction First' from ACI for four consecutive years.
In 2024, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is actively advancing high-quality development in multiple aspects, aiming to build itself into a comprehensive international aviation hub with international competitiveness.
